The Buds, the Birds, the Bugs and the Bees,
Celebrate the Northcliffe Bee Festival with a special Beach & Forest Eco Adventure on Sunday 25 October 2026, with special guest Melissa Zappelli.
Spring gives us plenty of reasons to stop along the tracks around the Southern Forests and Valleys. Different plants come into flower as we travel from the karri forest towards the coast, and looking closely at those flowers often reveals more than we first noticed.
For this special departure, reknown nature photographer, Melissa Zappelli from Wildwings Images, joins us to explore the birds, insects and flowering plants we encounter along the way, with particular attention to pollinators and their place in these changing landscapes.
We’ll follow our Beach & Forest Eco Adventure route through the Warren and D’Entrecasteaux national parks, travelling from the tall, majestic Karri forests to Lake Yeagarup, across the Yeagarup Dunes and through the wildflower spotted coastal heath towards the Southern Ocean. The changing habitats are part of what makes this journey so interesting: what we find in the forest can be quite different from what is flowering and moving closer to the beach.
The dunes and coastline will still be very much part of the day, with Melissa adding another perspective to the country we travel through. There will be time for questions, photographs and a closer look at whatever catches our attention.
This departure celebrates the Northcliffe Bee Festival and offers another reason to spend a little longer in the Southern Forests.
