Nestled in the heart of Western Australia, Pemberton is surrounded by towering Karri forests, shifting sand dunes, and remote coastline – all part of the Southern Forests & Valleys region. But what makes this place truly special isn’t just the scenery – it’s being able to explore it deeply, safely, and with local insight.
If you’re visiting for the first time (or even returning), one of the best ways to experience the wild beauty of Pemberton is through a guided tour that takes you beyond the bitumen and into the heart of the forest.
🌳 The Tour That Shows You Everything
The Beach & Forest Eco Adventure is Pemberton Discovery Tours' signature experience – and for good reason. This up to five-hour guided 4WD tour departs daily from Crossings Bakery and journeys through the Karri forests of Warren National Park, across the Yeagarup Dunes, and out to the wild Southern Ocean.
Along the way, your guide will share stories about the land, the shifting sands, the towering trees and the wildlife that calls this region home. You'll stop for photos, picnic lunch, and deflate tyres before driving across the dunes – a real off-road experience that’s only possible with the right vehicle, knowledge and permission.
No map or rental car will take you this deep into the landscape – this is a part of Pemberton most people simply never get to see.
🥾 Self-Guided Spots (And Why They Don’t Replace a Tour)
Yes, you can still explore some parts of Pemberton on your own. The Gloucester Tree (currently being refurbished), Pemberton Pool, and the trails around the Arboretum offer great forest views. When re-opened, the Gloucester Tree will again offer a unique climb experience, at the moment you can sit at the cafe and watch the birds and the Aerial Adventure high ropes nearby.
But it’s important to know that many of the most spectacular landscapes – like Yeagarup Lake, the sand dunes, and the remote coastline – are 4WD-only and not signposted. A guided tour lets you enjoy these without worrying about tracks, tides or getting stuck.

🌿 Nature and Wildlife Encounters
Guided tours like the Beach & Forest Eco Adventure let you experience the sights, sounds and smells of the Karri forest with all your senses.Depending on the season, you might:
Walk through wildflower-covered forest floors
Hear wrens and black cockatoos in the canopy
Spot kangaroos, emus or maybe even quokkas
Learn how the forest changes through the Noongar seasons
Every tour is different – and that’s part of the magic.
🚣 Paddle, Fish or Wander? Here’s What Else You Can Do
If you’re in town for a few days, you can also explore Pemberton’s waterways. Paddle a SUP on the Pemberton Pool, or bring your freshwater fishing licence to try your luck at trout or marron in the Warren River.
Keen for culture? Stop by the Pemberton Museum or enjoy the self-guided heritage walk through town.
But to truly understand Pemberton’s natural story – from the forests to the dunes to the sea – a guided experience is the best way to go.
